These are the folks who are got it done after Hurricane Katrina when the
government couldn't. When Bush went into spin mode, Habitat went to
work. Now that New Orleans is coming back and the real estate vultures
are swirling, Habitat patiently does what it can to help the city preserve
its unique character by continuing to economically get people into their
own homes. These people get it.
Expanding Opportunites
This is the organization that runs the orphanage in Kenya.
Their website is a little all-over-the-place with all their other projects.
Some of them are money making ventures to cover their administrative
expenses so that 100% of the money given goes to the kids with the
added benefit of teaching skills and giving African artists an outlet.
The others are charitable ventures related to either the orphanage
or its predecessor, feeding street kids in Kericho.

MATC
Maine Appalachian Trail Club. One of the few downsides to retiring
was not being able to do more with these guys. It's a wonderful group
of people dedicated to preserving an American treasure. While we get
to run around in the woods enjoying nature they have to attend long
meetings, serve on committees and protect the trail from incursions
of every kind...and they're fun to hang with
